Technology: We’re in the future!

I am so excited about how far we’ve come in the way of technology. We are really in the future. I’ve been a big fan of science fiction for decades, probably beginning with the Twilight Zone when I was a kid. No, we don’t have cigarettes without tar or nicotine yet. But I suppose if we did, no one would want to smoke them. But look at all the rest!

The Mac vs the PC – Get a Mac

It was 1985 when I first got my hands on a PC. Then in 1993, I signed up with an internet service provider and have been on the internet ever since. I was hooked! Later would come my first laptop, my first iPod, my first iPhone, my first iPad, and now my first Mac. If you have an Apple device, it just makes sense to get a Mac. It integrates everything seamlessly.

After using my MacBook Pro for a few days, it seems like it is so much more advanced than any PC I’ve ever used. I just love Apple’s OS X Mavericks operating system. And it’s free. Want to play a movie? No problem. The software is built in. Plug in an external hard drive for backups? That’s not a problem. There’s the backup software called “Time Machine” which is free so you don’t have to buy a thing. Antiviral software? There’s no need for that, either. It’s a secure OS. And both the hardware and the software are made by the same company.

The retina display is almost 3D. It is outstanding. The built-in trackpad is the pointing device and it is smooth. There’s a speaker on each side of the keyboard. On my Dell, the speakers are on the bottom. The sound on my Mac is wonderful whereas on my Dell it sounds hollow, plastic, and cheap.

Windows 8.1

I don’t like Windows 8.1. I just don’t like the tiles. A desktop environment is ideal. Why mess with a good thing?  On my Dell laptop, if you are too far to the left, right, up, or down, it looks like a film negative. I bought the first unit in May of 2013 and had problems with it right out of the box. Four months later they sent me a brand new unit. That one has issues as well. That’s why I bought the Mac. I want my data to be secure, and my Mac gives me confidence.

Interesting Videos

I’d like to provide some videos that I think you’ll enjoy. The first one is about Apple’s new Apple Watch announced just yesterday in a spectacular media event on their website. It is due to be released in early 2015. I’ll let the video speak for itself. The next one is about Robotics, and the next about quantum artificial intelligence. Enjoy!
